How to find Elm Tree Guest Cottages & St
Helena Bay
St Helena Bay is a mere 150km from Cape
Town, along wide open roads, with little or almost no traffic, depending on the
season.
The best way to reach Elm Tree Farm from
the Cape Town area is to take the West Coast Road, the R27. Keep on this
road, until you reach the junction with the R45 where you should turn left
to Vredenburg. Once in Vredenburg, you need to turn right at the
first set of traffic lights in the town onto the R399 towards Velddrif.
10km along this road, you need to take the left hand turn which is signposted to
St Helena Bay, the R533. Coming over the rise, you will have your
first glimpse of the bay. Continue along the coast, past the hotel and police station and
you will see Elm Tree on your left. Take the
next left turn, into Britannica Heights, next left again into Bella Wanti
Street and we are a bit further along on
the left hand side - please watch out for our dogs, ducks and geese when you
turn into the yard!
If you are
planning a more leisurely journey, it is well worth taking a detour through
the West Coast National Park, where the scenery is simply stunning.
If you have time,
you could stop for lunch at historic Geelbeck restaurant and visitor
centre, or take a picnic to enjoy by the lagoon. Enter the park through the Postberg gate off the R27, and
exit in Langebaan at top of the lagoon, where you can pick up the
R27 again, or head for Vredenburg via Saldanha.
Coming from other directions you can follow
either the R44, R45 or the N7 to join the R399, then continue from there.
